Cooking w/ Rea & Dad- Deluxe Chocolate Marshmallow Bars

by Robin Turnipseed

As I finished washing my dishes tonight, I looked out my kitchen window to see the sun slowly beginning its descent. It surprised me, and I checked my oven clock to realize that it was setting a bit earlier than last night.

It is official. Summer is breathing its last hot and humid breaths, and I am reflecting on the memories we created. There were beach trips, picnics, and countless pool visits mixed in with a solid helping of football practices and endless math tutoring. It was a lovely combination of fun and focus, and I always wonder how long these memories will last in my children’s minds. I hope they are the sticky kind of memories. The ones that reappear years from now and bring joy.

Creating Kitchen Memories

Maybe you are holding on to the last few whisps of your summer and want to make one last treat before school starts. If so, here is a summer-themed Cooking with Rea and Dad to aid you in bidding farewell to those lazy, hazy, crazy days and easing back into the school year.

A fun side note is that this recipe comes from the Taste of Home: Best Loved Recipes cookbook I received as a young bride terrified of having to feed her new husband more than cereal and sandwiches. It has provided me with solid meal ideas for the last 20-plus years, and the Deluxe Chocolate and Marshmallow Bars recipe is delicious!

Enjoy!
